The Light in the Waiting

Think of it this way: everyone experiences seasons of waiting.

A child waits for a prayer to be answered. A parent waits for a job. A family waits for healing, restoration, or good news. Waiting can be difficult because it often feels as though nothing is happening.

But the light in the waiting is a reminder that God does not only show up at the end, when the answer finally comes. He is present throughout the journey. He gives us light, comfort, strength, and hope right in the middle of the waiting.

Though I sit in darkness

“Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be a light to me.”

Micah 7:8

Notice that the prophet does not say if I sit in darkness. He says though. The darkness is real, and he is sitting in it. What changes is not the room, but the company. The Lord is his light while the darkness is still there, not only after it lifts.

Wait for the LORD

“Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage.”

Psalm 27:14

Waiting, in the Bible, is not doing nothing. It takes strength. It takes courage. And the courage does not come from knowing how the story ends. It comes from knowing who is with us while we wait.

Faith can live in the waiting

Sometimes, the greatest evidence of His presence is not that the waiting ends immediately, but that we find the courage to keep going.

That is why this site is called Light in the Waiting. It is the heart behind our children’s song Hold On to Hope, which says it in words a child can sing: some prayers don’t turn to answers the moment that we say amen, but faith can live in the waiting.

If you are waiting for something right now, you may still be waiting. But you are not in the dark.
